It is hard to pick those 2-3 souvenirs to bring home to your family when you’ve been in foreign country, moreover it is hard to pick that last minute present for your loved ones.

The idea is to develop an application which offers suggestion on what to buy when you visit a foreign city/country based on the specific of that city/country. At the same time the suggestions/recommendation will be based on the different products specific to that country, to the person you want to buy them for (yourself, a loved one, your kids, your boss etc.). In the same direction the application can offer suggestion what present to buy for a certain acquittance based on their social profile.

Travlr (Traveling Assistant)

Frequent traveller and event weekend getaway travellers often do their travelling route in advance and plan which objectives to see. Consider such an application mobile (and desktop if needed) which helps the travellers plan their route, by car, bicycle, train or plane, updates accordingly to the schedule of the train/plane/car/bicycle and helps the traveller plan which objectives to see in the time he has at his disposal. When he gets back home the application will automatically provide him with a timeline/map visualization of his trip, the photos he took and the objectives he visited. Consider the fact that some people travel in groups and help them find one another if they are lost. Also consider offline mode for travel directions in case of no internet connection.

Museum Explorer

Develop a mobile application/device that guides a museum visitor. The mobile application/device could easily picked up at the entrance via a QR code (application) or simply provided by the museum staff. The main functionalities for the mobile application/device consist of the fact that they take advantage of the position of the user in the museum (using sensor networks, NFC, RFID etc.) to determine where he is and provide him with useful audio and visual information on the devices and in concordance with the museum displays. If a visitor wants to find out more he would go to a certain exhibits and find out more (the exhibits have QR codes or RFID, NFC and getting closer/pointing at them would give us the audio tour). At the end of the tour the application will provide an overview of the tour the visitor took and the photos he took along the way presented as time line, and in concordance with the places where he has been in the museum at that time. Also give the visitor the possibility to interact with the displays/demos in the museum using the mobile application, or the physical controls on that demo.

Bonus: Automatic generated guided tour for that museum, based on the visitor’s preferences and interests. The application will also be available for smart phone and tablet.
